Geoff's Blog: Family Working Together
Family Working Together

It's nice to see family working together. Last Saturday night, I had the pleasure to emcee an event at Fitzgerald's in Berwyn. It's a classic bar that has been there for years.
I, of course, had my entourage with me: my sports guy, Dan Levy, was there to mooch my beers (LOL). Bonnie, my producer from the Chicago Overnight show, stopped by. My wife, Angel, who can't let me out of her sight was on hand, along with George Bliss, who helps me on my program, and Garry Meier, who is a Chicago radio legend (and just landed a gig at WGN).
The opening act was a group called Lobster Newburg--an unusual name, but nonetheless a great band. It features Colin Peterik, who is Jim Peterik's son. The group is fresh and exciting and had the whole crowd going. There was no bad economy gloom and doom in the air. Music is great therapy for the soul. The band played for 45 minutes and the crowd had a great time.
Jim Peterik may not be a household name, but you all know him. He started the band the Ides Of March over 40 years ago: "I'm your vehicle baby, I'll take you anywhere you want to go." He also wrote the "Eye Of The Tiger" song for Rocky III. He has a new band called Lifeforce that puts a jazz spin on all of his old music. He wrote new music as well and jammed for close to an hour and a half. His new song "Joy" is in the top 10 on the Jazz charts.
It was so cool to see father and son admire each other and really kick some ass on the stage. All of the guys in both bands were very cool. I have such admiration for musicians. I have no idea how they do it. True passion is a cool thing to witness.
Do you listen to my overnight show? Tell me what you think about it.
