Stop Playing the Race Card

6/29/2009   Comment on This

What's with all of these celebrities dying? We have lost several in just a week or so. The most high profile is, of course, Michael Jackson. It is really so sad how sick he was mentally and physically. He was a talent who had a death wish. All that money and fame and eventual death.

What strikes me, though, are some of the comments that accuse me of racism and the e-mails I have been getting since his death. I take the position that where there is smoke there is fire, and MJ took advantage of young boys. This is not a blog to defend myself, but more to point out that people still use the race card. Why? Can't a white guy have an opinion about a black guy and not be called a racist?

On my radio show, we go after the likes of Da Mayor, Jody Weis, and many other white guys. Just last week we had a debate about a copper who beat the tar out of a bartender but received no jail time. He is a white guy too. I tore into him pretty good.

But as soon as MJ is mentioned, the race card comes out from under the deck:
"Take off your white sheet."
"I am sure you don't care about the guy because he is black."

These are the funny, entertaining, and ignorant comments I am receiving. Guess who makes those comments? Is this payback for previous years of racism? Why can't we just give an opinion and take a stand whether someone is white, black, Asian, purple, orange, etc? I know the race debate has been beaten a million times, but I am still amazed that people actually still play that card. Those are the ones who are the racists, in my opinion.

What do you think? Contact me to let me know.
